I always have some freedom during August. The bad news is that I and my lovey wife, Miwako, both got Covid19 this August. The good news is that I did not miss much work. Also, my symptoms were light and Miwakos only a little worse. I also podcasted and YouTube a lot. Check it out.

                                                                                       My August 2022

Two things filled my August 2022. One was Covid. The other was computering. First, Covid.

Miwako got Covid early in August. Her sister was in town, visiting from France, with her two sons and they stayed with us for four days. We had two get-togethers with them, our daughters, their husbands and enjoyed the time together. Then M and her two sisters travelled here and there. Her sisters are fine. M got Covid. That was a bit of bad luck, methinks.

So, I became a CLOSE CONTACT person. I had to quarantine. I couldn’t go out. Therefore, I couldn’t go to teach. I had to cancel some lessons. The good news is that it was the O-Bon holiday season. I was on holiday. I was free for six days. I could get Covid and not miss much work. And that is exactly what happened. My symptoms were mild as I had gotten my second booster shot. But I couldn’t go out until August 20th. I didn’t need to cancel any kindergarten lessons as most of them are off for the summer. So, M went to our school in my stead, as I taught remotely from our house for four days. It worked out quite well. On top of that, M got to meet some of the students and vice versa.

The second thing that consumed my time was YouTube and podcasting.  I did two Zoom interviews, one with two students and the other with a foreigner. Both were firsts for me. The interviews are fun. The editing is a lot of work. And I learned one very important thing; my interview skills are quite lacking.

As for computering, my greatest challenge was coordinating my YouTube videos with my podcasts. I had 12 videos that I created in 2012. They are monthly pronunciation practices for the kids at our school. They are used with our textbooks. There are two checkups (tests) at the end of each practice. However those checkups are not available on the videos. Thus, I created 12 podcasts that contain the same pronunciation practice, and then included two checkups at the end. Finally I linked the podcasts to the videos.

I missed four AM workouts during my COVID sickness. I didn’t drink any alcohol; that is now 15 months without a drop. Also, I include videos on my Twitter account. And, I must say that I am very satisfied with, and quite proud of, my new computer skills. They say that You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I beg to differ.
